Eddie Spencer, Founder and Senior Personal Trainer

Eddie Spencer has been helping people reach their goals for more than thirty years. A seasoned
professional, he has provided direction, support and motivation to a wide variety of clientele. His ability
to evaluate client needs and build on their strong points is an area where he excels.

As senior trainer for a local fitness facility for nearly ten years, Eddie developed many unique approaches toward fitness training. Beyond standard strength and cardiovascular conditioning techniques, some of his specialties include postural realignment, post-rehab strengthening, functional muscular re-education, as well as specific training for seniors and fellow baby-boomers.

Eddie has a long history of clients of all ages ranging from teen athletes pursuing sports scholarships all the way to retirees wanting more out of their later years. He brings just the right mix of academic knowledge, in depth experience and a respected instinct for the workings of the human body.

In addition to helping those new to exercise, the training style Eddie has developed is designed to assist those who need or want to reach new levels of achievement, especially effective for those who are looking for ways to break through barriers in their present exercise regimen.

Injury prevention is one of Eddie’s highest priorities. Through close attention to proper exercise form and execution, his clients learn not only how to perform the exercises correctly but why. Postural realignment and core strengthening are major components of his work. Re-educating the body to establish movement patterns that effectively translate to everyday life is a large benefit of the approach he takes.

Acquainted with many of the trends in nutrition, Eddie combines scientific research with practical experience
to provide a nutritional approach to fit your preferences and lifestyle. Many of his clients have made notable progress with their quest for weight control by combining his nutritional counseling with
the exercise and fitness programs he designs.

Initially certified by the American Council on Exercise nearly twelve years ago, Eddie has extended
his knowledge with a broad spectrum of continuing education that, when combined, provides strong support
for the obvious talents he displays. His degrees in Physics and Engineering provide basis for
biomechanical evaluation and exercise program development. Sharing his knowledge and presenting it
in an understandable way is something he does best.

“Life is about opportunity. Every day, every session, every person presents an opportunity for progress and
growth. I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to stimulate, motivate and facilitate this process.
Providing a means to achieve whatever goals and ambitions may have been set, striving for levels of
achievement yet unconsidered, and instilling the confidence to do so, is my personal commitment to all
those with whom I have the opportunity to share my knowledge and experience.”

He enjoys working with individuals wanting to enhance their athletic performance and/or quality of life.

Clark’s passion and dedication to his profession help provide the education and skills to empower his
clients to have a healthier, more exciting lifestyle.

“My training method is based first on improving flexibility, postural alignment and control, neuromuscular efficiency, balance, and coordination. In turn, this prepares the body for further spinal stabilization with the use of core and back conditioning. Then, I use functional movement patterns and a proprioceptively enriched environment to improve my client’s bodily stabilization and quality of movement. With specific exercises for different goals, I optimize their performance.

Techniques I use include self myofacial release, several forms of specialized stretching, Yoga, Pilates, Egoscue, and functional integrated training, to name a few. I add cardiovascular, strength, and endurance programs as well as nutritional counseling for those who are motivated toward weight management for health or image reasons. My wide breath of knowledge and experience affords me the ability to individualize a program for each person. There is nothing more gratifying than making a difference in
someone’s life.”

YOGA

Jane Freedman, Yoga Instructor
Jane is a dedicated student and teacher of Iyengar yoga and has been committed to her practice for 15 years. Aside from her daughter, it is the most profound relationship she has ever known.

She has eternal gratitude toward her patient teacher of nine years, Senior Iyengar Master, Kofi Busia. Jane
is currently enrolled in his teacher training course. Jane’s gift for teaching combines the wisdom of her
own practice with a B.S. degree in Biology and a massage certificate from the Cypress Institute of
Santa Cruz.

“As a teacher, I find it an honor to share the many gifts yoga has to offer. To experience the visceral inner freedom that proper structural alignment reveals is a gift. To feel emotionally present and mindfully
aware when faced with life’s stressful challenges is a gift. I approach yoga from the Iyengar tradition and
from my own experience. I hope to empower my students with this knowledge.”

Iyengar Yoga was developed by the now 87-year old B.K.S. Iyengar, one of the premier yogis responsible
for introducing yoga to the west. B.K.S. Iyengar’s mastered and synthesized over 200 classical yoga asanas (postures). Iyengar Yoga focuses on correct body alignment and anatomical development, proper sequencing, use of props and pranayama (breath) to nurture greater concentration, strength, stamina, mental health and physical flexibility as well as overall balance and inner harmony. The powerful cumulative effects achieved from Iyengar Yoga are used to treat many ailments and is impressively healing!

Kym House, Yoga Instructor
Kym is a Kripalu certified yoga instructor with a B.A. in dance. She began studying yoga in 1986 as part of
her dance training and has been teaching since 1999. As a result of a skiing injury, her dedication to
practice intensified and the incredible healing power of Viniyoga was revealed. Kym has explored various
styles including; Ashtanga Vinyasa, Tantra and Anusara. Currently, she is completing a 500 hour
advanced training in the Viniyoga tradition with the American Viniyoga Institute and Gary and Mirka
Kraftsow.

Evolved from the teachings of T. Krishnamacharya and T.K.V. Desikachar, Viniyoga applies yogic practices to
the specific needs of an individual or group. Classes are as challenging and fun as you would like to make
them; adaptations, props and individual needs are explored. Breath and origin of movement combined with
elegant sequencing support the primary functions of practice. Spinal health and universal alignment
principles being some key elements

“I believe in teaching people how to do yoga, the philosophy and science, as well as guiding them
through the postures safely. My love of dance and movement has developed my kinesthetic sense. I teach students how to do the postures properly and safely. The integration of meditation, pranayama, yogic philosophy as well as visual imagery within the physical practice creates a full experience.”

Viniyoga sequences coordinate breath with repetition in and out of postures as well as holding of traditional poses. The result is sequences that can bring balance and vitality, ease stress of chronic tension and correct movement patterns. You will learn adaptations for your structure and the fundamentals of this powerful practice. Both therapeutic and challenging, classes are lead with a light hearted spirit and are suitable for beginners to intermediate yogis of all shapes, ages and fitness levels.
