Mainstream

Mainstream exercise methods are a core component of the Integrated Fitness by Design System. These include exercise methods that are based on traditional Western philosophies of personal fitness training, physical rehabilitation, and stretch, providing development and maintenance of your overall fitness.

PERSONAL FITNESS TRAINING
For our Specialized Personal Training clients, programs begin with a comprehensive postural evaluation. Correct skeletal alignment improves overall fitness, health and attitude by allowing the body to function more efficiently. Through careful and continuous assessment, physical restrictions and/or weaknesses that might otherwise go unnoticed by the client will be specifically identified. Clients will learn how to correct and eliminate problem or weak areas that may have plagued them for years.

Our innovative approach develops a solid foundation on which to build a safe and effective exercise program. Attempts to strengthen the body without this initial realignment phase, would more deeply and permanently cement these deviations and imbalances into the client’s frame, surely causing problems sooner or later.

The good news is that once the realignment process begins, the body moves toward more functional basic movement patterns. This improved patterning progresses into a more complex flow of efficient and effective motion that is now more properly trainable. This advances the process because the body is now operating in a manner closer to its initial design and everything just feels better. Incidence of injury during training is minimized as the client learns what proper exercise technique feels like. Proper form becomes more natural and effective. Motivation goes up because results are more readily apparent.

POST REHAB
For those clients that are finalizing post trauma or post surgery physical therapy, specific programs to address further strengthening and function development of the affected areas are available. The lack of follow-thru in the transition from completion of physical therapy to regular exercise, and/or a full active lifestyle, is often a cause for re-injury or new injury to associated biomechanical systems. This is an area where our staff excels, combining their education and extensive experience to provide a comprehensive path back to full function and enjoyment of life! Spencer Fitness Studios shares an extensive network of referrals with many of the physical therapy facilities in the area.

STRETCH

stretching As life progresses, both flexibility and balance are compromised. This functional loss varies from person to person. In most cases,  both can be improved through special training. Flexibility and/or balance specific programs can be developed to address these issues. Our staff has specialized training in these areas and have witnessed the benefits as their clients progress.

In later years, seniors are subject to falls which significantly change the direction of their lives. The importance of maintaining and increasing the balance function of our bodies cannot be overstressed. The time to address this is before it becomes an issue. Clients in their middle years are finding that recapturing this important ability through balance specific programs goes a long way to prepare them to avoid future balance related injury and thus maintain their independence.

Improved flexibility goes hand-in-hand with improved balance. Misalignment in the body is caused by muscular imbalances. Those muscles that are too tight need to be stretched in order to straighten the frame. Many are unaware that of a lack of flexibility is directly related to the body’s ability to balance. Because flexibility varies from client to client, flexibility specific programs may be necessary in conjunction with an on-going fitness program. (Also see Personal Care, Alternative and Integrative Fitness)
